About Us

The Arethusa United Alumnae Association (AUAA), consist of alumnae of all chapters of the Arethusa Sorority - Sigma Gamma Phi, which was founded at the Brockport Normal School in 1870.

The organization's purpose is to unite all alumnae of the known chapters of Arethusa, in an effort to perserve Arethusa and maintain communication amongst all her Alumnae Sisters.

The association was organized in 1996 by alumnae of the Delta and Iota chapters of Arethusa, who wanted to ensure the growth of Arethusa and continue their involvement beyond the undergraduate experience.

To unify all Alumnae Arethusa Sisters in the spirit of Arethusa herself.

To preserve the History and Rituals of all known chapters of Arethusa by:

       a. Establishing an Arethusa Sorority-Sigma Gamma Phi Archive.

       b. Publishing a book on the founding of the Arethusean Society.

       c.  Publishing a Ritual/ Sister Handbook.

       d. Establishing a Arethusa Sorority-Sigma Gamma Phi National Membership Directory.

To establish an alumnae and undergraduate news publication, The Fountain.

To assist in the organization of alumnae and undergraduate activities.

To recognize dedicated Sisters and honored members.

To establish the following for the benefit of Alumnae Sisters:

      a.  Lost and Found Sisters.

      b.  Arethusa paraphernalia.

      c.  Sister Eternal.

To offer assistance to the Undergraduate Sisters in their scholarly and social pursuits via:

      a.  Financial advice.

      b.  Recruitment advice.

 

 

 

The AUAA Executive Board consist of the following officers:

President, Vice President, Treasurer, Fountain Editor, Historian, and Social Coordinator.

Other AUAA Officers are the Chapter Liaisons and Committee Chairpersons.

Meetings are held quarterly.  Special meetings may be called if necessary.AUAA members are encouraged but not required to attend meetings,  with the exception of the Executive Board Officers.

Voting on issues and amendments shall be conducted at AUAA meetings.

 

 

 

1. You must be an Arethusa Sister, in good standing, that has either graduated the undergraduate institution, transfered to a new institution, or chosen not to continue to attend the institution.

2. All monetary obligations to your undergraduate chapter have been fulfilled.

Membership Dues

The AUAA offers you two payment methods.

Option A: $10 by Check

Option B: $11 via PayPal using Visa, Master Card, American Express, or Discover Card.


Membership Entitlements

The payment and receipt of dues entitles AUAA members to the following:

1. The biannual newsletter, The Fountain.

2. Discounts on Arethusa Paraphernalia.

3. Voting privileges on AUAA issues if present at meetings.

4. Submit articles and photos to the newsletter.

5. An opportunity to become a Chapter Liaison. (attendance at meetings not required)

6. An opportunity to hold an AUAA Executive Board Position if present at two meetings prior to nomination.

 

 

 

The Fountain is a newsletter created by the AUAA to unite the alumnae sisters of all Arethusa chapters, and to establish a means of communication between the alumnae sisters. 

It is also intended to further communications between the alumnae and undergraduate sisters.

The Fountain shall contain the following items:

News of the individual alumnae associations of the Arethusa chapters.

News of the undergraduate chapters of Arethusa

The AUAA in its efforts to preserve the History of Arethusa, has created the National Arethusa Membership Directory.

Its purpose is to record the names of the women who became Sisters of the Arethusa Sorority.

There is no fee or charge to have your name recorded in this historic document, which includes the names of the Founding Members of 1870.

There is no obligation.  Register now.
